Texas A&M was nearly out of race contention at the first exchange, as their 2nd leg left too quickly, causing them to complete the baton pass just on the leaving edge of the exchange zone. TCU and Duke had a strong battle on the 2nd and 3rd legs, but Duke faltered on the final exchange (resulting in the DNF) and TCU was alone in the front. Texas A&M had clean 2nd and 3rd exchanges to get back into the race, chasing down TCU in the final 100m, passig TCU with 20m remaining in the race to break the finishing line tape in 43.75, earning their 9th relay wheel in this event.
