New Penn Relay record: A forty year old record takes a tumble! Sophomore Blair Bartlett drops the record to 9:13.60 earning her HS Girls Athlete of the Meet for Individual Events honors for the achievement. Defending champion Addi Ritzenhein (Niwot CO) took command of the race during the third lap, as she shifted into leading the large field pack and began to pick up the pace. The field thinned out, and by the end of the fourth lap, there was a top pack of 4: Ritzenhein, Caroline Tribbet (Gainesville VA), Caroline Barton (Carolina Day, NC), and Blair Bartlett (Lawrenceville School, NJ). Ritzenhein continued to press the pace, but only Bartlett would try to stay with her, so the lead was down to two. Ritzenhein kept 2 steps ahead of Bartlett as the bell lap was rung. Bartlett made her move with 200m to go, powering past Ritzenhein on the final curve but Ritzenhein could not respond. Bartlett, looking like a sprinter, sped down the final 100m and crossed the finish line in a new meet record 9:13.60. Wind: 0
