There was a lot of pack running for the first three laps of the mile championships, as the boys kept jockeying for position throughout. About halfway through the third lap, Zachary Youngblood (Chattanooga Christian, TN) made his move to the front and tried to break away from the field. He couldn’t pull away yet, as Xavier Richardson (Lafayette KY) tried to maintain contact. Youngblood’s lead grew after the bell lap, but Richardon couldn’t keep up. As Richardson began to fade, Carter Smith (Mifflin PA) made his move, passing Richardson on the final curve and tried to close the gap on Youngblood. The gap was too great, as Youngblood’s final 55 second lap gave him the win in 4:10.07, becoming the first athlete from Tennessee to win the event. Wind: 0
