Rockhurst HS (MO) knocks St. Elizabeth Tech (Santa Cruz, Jamaica) off of the top 10 list for HS Boys 4x800 races here at the Penn Relays. St. Elizabeth ran 7:35.20 in 2016. Rockhurst’s 7:33.83 stands at #10. S John’s College (DC) came into the finals as the team to beat, as they posted the fast preliminary round time on Thursday. During the final, St John’s College first claimed the lead with 150m to go in the first leg. Manheim Township (PA), who was only 0.04 seconds behind St John’s College in qualifying, provided the initial competition, but they were ultimately swallowed by IMG Academy (FL), Rockhurst (MO), St. Joseph’s Prep (PA) in the middle of the third leg, forming a four team chase pack behind St John’s College. Rockhurst and IMG Academy caught up to St John’s College with 250 meters to go in the race. IMG Academy attempted to pass St John’s College going into the final curve but St John’s College was not giving up without a fight. Coming off the final curve, IMG Academy was one step ahead of St John’s College. Rockhurst’s Henry Acorn slingshotted off the final curve to pass both St John’s College and IMG Academy on the outside, speeding by them to win in the 10th fastest time in meet history 7:33.83, becoming the first high school team from Missouri to win a Penn Relays Wheel. St John’s College passed by IMG Academy in the final steps to finish as the runner up, 7:34.26 to 7:34.45. Wind: 0
