Event 304Friday 9:30 AM
Twelve fastest teams from Events #301-304 qualify for Championship Final, Event #587 (Saturday, 4:35 PM). Penn Wood (PA) built up a 10m lead on the field by the first exchange and continued to build. At halfway through the second leg, Penn Wood's lead grew to 30 meters, while back in the chase, Toms River North (NJ) and Union Catholic (NJ) battled for second. Penn Wood's lead shrunk a little by the second exchange, as Union Catholic closed it to 20 meters. Union Catholic pulled even with Penn Wood at 400m into the third leg, with Perkiomen Valley (PA) joined the two by 600m. It was Union Catholic's turn to take the lead, and going into the final exchange, Union Catholic was ahead by 10m over Perkiomen Valley and Penn Wood. At the bell, Union Catholic had a 15m lead, with Perkiomen Valley, Penn Wood and American Military Academy (PR) closing the gap. The group caught Union Catholic with 250m remaining in the race. American Military Academy's anchor began their kick with 200m to go, but Union Catholic's anchor responded immediately. The two teams raced side-by-side over the final curve and were even as they entered the final straightaway. Union Catholic, having the outside lane, found one more gear and won the heat over American Military Academy by one step.
