1200-400-800-1600. Georgia Tech and Maryland battled each other throughout the race. These two were co-leading at the first exchange. Georgia Tech surged to the front in the 400m backstretch, forming a 5-meter gap over Maryland going into the second exchange. Maryland was able to keep it close to Georgia Tech during the 800m leg while distancing themselves from the field (which featured Providence, St. Joseph's (PA), and UConn as the main chasers). Maryland passed Georgia Tech at 450m, but Georgia Tech pulled even on the final curve, ultimately passing Maryland on the final stretch going into the final exchange. Georgia Tech quickly opened the gap on Maryland in the final leg. By 400m, there was 20m between Georgia Tech and Maryland. Providence had established themselves in third place. Maryland worked to close the gap on Georgia Tech over the next two laps, at one point being about 5 meters behind, but by the bell, Georgia Tech re-established a 15m lead. Georgia Tech pulled away on the final lap, winning the event with a comfortable 30m margin. Meanwhile, Providence made a move on the final lap to try to catch Maryland, but Maryland held on to finish in second place.
