Last year, Blair Bartlett (Lawrenceville School, NJ) came in as the underdog and won against the favorite after making a decisive move within less than 2 laps to go. This year, she's the favorite. Blair took the lead from the field 500m into the race and began to thin out the field. By 600m, Blair and Leah Starkey (Ocean Township, NJ) broke away from the rest of the field. Leah raced just a step behind Blair for the next 1500m as they widen their lead against the field. At 2100m, Leah made her move and passed Blair. Blair kept contact with Leah. At the bell lap, Leah was only 2 steps ahead of Blair. Blair made her move with 250m remaining, but Leah could not find another gear to respond. Blair sprinted to the finish line, shattering the meet record that she had established just the year before. Leah's finishing time also broke the previous meet record. Blair is the first runner to repeat as champion in this event since Lake Braddock's Sophie Chase did in 2012-2013.
