Hometown favorite Nia Akins was the only one to follow pacer at the gun, staying with her until the pacer hopped off the track at 450m. Akins had a 10 to 15 meter gap on the field. Akins wasn’t challenged for the rest of the race, winning by a comfortable margin in 2:00. Emily Richards passed Gabrielle Wilkinson and Rachel Gearing just before the finish line, securing the runner-up honors.
