During the first leg, it appeared the race could go to anybody as Edwin Allen (JAM), Sydney Pagon STEM (JAM), IMG Academy (FL), and William Penn Charter (PA) all took turns leading the field. At the first exchange, IMG Academy held only a 5m lead over Edwin Allen. Edwin Allen made up the ground with IMG Academy within 200m, but the contact did not last long as IMG Academy started to pull away at the 400m mark. IMG Academy's lead just kept growing and growing, as they had 50m over Edwin Allen by the second exchange, and then 70m over William Penn Charter at the final exchange. At the bell, IMG Academy's lead was 80m. IMG Academy would go on to finish within the fourth fastest time in meet history, successfully defending their event title.
