1200-400-800-1600. Stanford set the pace early in the race, breaking away from the field with 200m to go in the first leg. Stanford was first at the exchange, followed closely behind by Providence while the field - led by North Carolina, Clemson, and Washington - were another 20m back. Stanford extended their lead during the 400m leg, widening the gap to 30 meters by the second exchange. Halfway through the 800m leg, Stanford had a 40m lead over North Carolina, followed by Clemson, Providence, and Washington. North Carolina used the second lap of the leg to catch up to Stanford, and by the final exchange, Stanford was only one step ahead of North Carolina. Stanford and North Carolina continued to battle each other on the final leg as they created an 80m gap on the field by the bell lap. Stanford tried to pick up the pace with 200m to go, but North Carolina managed to pull even at the top of the final stretch. In the final meters, North Carolina passed Stanford on the outside to win the race by 1/2 step, setting new Penn Relays and NCAA records. This is North Carolina's fourth event win, first win since 2003.
